Dead zone compensator is designed to eliminate the effect of dead zone measurement in the diagnosis of an optical network using an OTDR.
Dead zone measurement occurs due to overload in OTDR photo detector under reflection of the probe optical signal from output plug-in connection.
Compensator is a piece of optical fiber coiled and stowed in box, and terminated by fiber adaptors. The fiber used therein has the function of the equivalent fiber optic line, which makes it possible to examine correctly the optical line throughout the length — from the beginning to the end. The effect of the Dead zone, occurring at the proximal end (100-500 m), is just eliminated by the compensator.
